With God Alone

O God, we're never quite so unalone
as when we are in prayer alone with You,
we need no email, cell or telephone
to do our fond and welcome rendezvous.

Inside a crowd our soul is lonely still,
the noise and talk do not true solace bring,
the chatter drone and music only fill
the joyless trolling through a soulless fling.

It's true a friend may ease an endless day,
and family make my broken feelings whole,
but only You can take me all the way,
to overflow my empty reeling soul.

If we are busiest thinking on our own,
in prayer we're lonely least with You alone.
