Love Is Strong

Love is so strong, it’s more than a command,
the martyr dies for love, not to obey;
no slave chain forms a husband’s wedding band,
‘tis love, not force, that makes him stay and stay.
But God commands we love Him first and most,
yet love cannot exist unless it’s free;
freedom’s that Godlike gift just humans boast,
to let us love Him back, He lets it be.
Just so, God’s law is trumped by freedom’s might,
and freedom’s greatest power is to forge love;
to be free to love God is our best right,
that brings us to eternal life above.
O Lord, help me become Your servant true,
and freely choose to love and follow You.
