Trading Faith

I want to trade God's faithfulness with mine,
I know God's faith in me is always there;
just as the branch is faithful to the vine,
I'd like to match my caring to His care.

Of course, my faith will never equal His,
His faith is infinite while mine is small
compared to how much faith in me there is,
I feel I don't have any faith at all.

God's faith stands fast while mine just comes and goes,
His faith flows free, mine is conservative;
my sordid sins break faith with Him, God knows,
but His great love lets faithful Him forgive.

O God, I pray You hearken to my aid
to make my faith for Yours a fairer trade.
