Strong Arm God

O God, I ask that You would strong arm me,
I pray You put Your weight upon my soul,
for Your strong gentle hand I do ask free,
to steel and strengthen my weak self-control.

Do not test me, O God, much on my way,
lead me not into old temptation's grip,
let me not sin to our mutual dismay,
hold me fast, be true anchor of my ship.

I do not ask You lighten up my load,
but that You make me strong to run the race,
O Lord, let me not kick against the goad,
just let me feel the power of Your grace.

To help me bear this world, God, keep me strong,
with Your strong arm, so mighty, large and long.
