Look Beyond
You always tell me, Lord, to look beyond,
beyond just practicing my faith for now,
that in my heart I should try to be fond
of You Who bless as I obey and bow.
To look beyond a person’s outer skin,
and see inside the Christ I claim to love,
beneath the bread and wine to see within
the Eucharistic Lord Who reigns above.
To look beyond this temporal life so dear,
strip worldliness away in order to
detect the spiritual world beyond my fear,
to the eternal life I’ll spend with You.
You point beyond my body so I see
my soul, Your face, my true identity.
