Soul Sediments
I take my leave from life empty of all
material possessions, people too;
it seems that I have nothing left to haul
to heaven for my final rendezvous.
Only the sediments of my soul remain,
invisible in my spiritual residue;
my daily prayers I felt were so mundane--
a million gems now sparkle like the dew.
The liturgies, boring as seminars,
kind deeds, old virtues polished up as new,
dull rosaries--all shine like the megastars,
and, oh!, my sins are registered there too.
How glad I am to bring along the droll
and dull debris, the sediments of my soul.
