Prayer Knowing

What makes my praying good and strong and true?
Is it my thoughts of God I’m thinking of?
Is it the where or when or how, or who
I’m praying for and how much them I love?

Or why--so my intention is sincere?
Or me--my disposition, state of grace?
My faith--that God my little prayer will hear?
My awe--yet brave enough to face His face?

The words I choose--the simple or sublime?
The risk I dare--to take Him one-on-one?
The time I take to tender God my time?
My openness--to say, “Thy will be done”?

Yes, all these, more or less, to some degree,
but most of all, Lord, my humility.
