Hail David

King David was the greatest king of old,
and yet he served the Lord God as his Lord,
in war he prayed the Good Lord make him bold,
then slew Goliath for his faith’s reward.

He set us the ideal of servant king,
while pagan kings took all wealth as their own,
King David gave his people everything,
now public servants serve the folks alone.

Young David praised his Lord with harp and psalms,
and calmed King Saul’s depression with his art;
though sinful, he repented and gave alms,
he was, God said, a man for His own heart.

Hail to Saint David, who served God the best,
and showed great leadership to all the rest.
