I Thank You, Lord

I thank You, Lord, these eyes that let me see,
I thank You for these ears that let me hear,
and while I eat, this taste that pleasures me,
and for this touch and smell of things so near.

Thanks for this heart that beats so faithfully,
these bones that hold me up and set me down,
and all these quarts of blood that flow so free,
these muscles on my frame from toe to crown.

I thank You for these helpful hands and feet,
for all this air my lungs are hungry for,
these cells and genes and DNA discrete,
these atoms, quarks and molecules galore.

And best, this mind, free will, this self and soul,
thank You, God, for each part and, oh, the whole.
