For All My Prayers
What do I have to show for all my prayers?
God answers them in such a zigzag way,
invisible they climb His angel stairs,
to quietly disappear without delay.
How sensitive and big must be His ear,
just like a giant searchlight's silent sweep,
the tiniest sigh and syllable to hear,
the faintest pulse and promises to keep.
The less I can decode of His replies,
the more my own forboding I must rout,
to with Him let my life of faith arise
and feel His Providence dispell my doubt.
Lord, any way You answer anywhere,
I hope You show me something for my prayer.
