Prayer Routine

Night after night my prayers sound all the same,
same words, same thoughts, what difference do they make?
After a while the prayer routine seems lame,
do I do it for me or for God's sake?

Of course, intentions change as needs arise,
my children win a special prayer or two,
sometimes a heart that sighs, an eye that cries
get prayers when all the rest are through.

I think it takes some faith to say a prayer,
when there is no one there that we can see,
and hope someone will hear who has a care,
and actually answer some from little me.

O God, I would not pray night after night
if I did not believe You're in my fight.
