Having My Cake

I want to have my cake and eat it too,
I want to be forgiven, then sin again,
I won't do what I tell myself to do,
I won't stop sinning for I like my sin.
I want the worldly things, God's far away,
I like to have the things of here and now,
the future's far, I'm focused on today,
I'll take what's mine and work it out somehow.
St. Paul wrote, with himself he was at war,
he prayed to have a thorn torn from his side,
I know God will forgive if I implore,
my ambiguity He will abide.
Let me not, God, eat too much of my cake,
so I can give You some for my soul’s sake.
