God's Restless Heart

You’d think a restful God would not be restless,
a mighty God would have no need to wrestle,
a good, all-knowing God for sure’d be stressless,
but then God has to mould each earthen vessel.

If God knows all, why try so hard to save us?
If saved or lost, why does He keep on trying?
Is He shocked by the freedom that He gave us?
Must His great love make Him attend our crying?

Why bother with the ones He knows He’s losing?
Does God respond with selectivity?
Does He think He can still affect our choosing?
Love, freedom, God--oh, so much mystery!

Lord, if Your restless heart holds me like glue,
then let my restless heart be stuck on You.
