O God, You are so good a friend of mine--
though Your transcendence keeps You far from me,
and I'm just human while You are divine,
You sent Your immanent Son for us to see.
Good Shepherd mine, the Way, the Truth, the Life,
O Trinity of Father, Spirit, Son,
defend, protect me in my time of strife,
bind up my wounds, O Good Samaritan.
The Alpha and Omega of my hope
is You Redeemer, Savior of my soul;
I push the edge of my life's envelope
towards You, Light of the world, most loving goal.
While love to my poor branch Your vine outpours,
I pray I stay so good a friend of Yours.
