Behind the Mask

You make the poor to challenge us to see
behind the mask the glory of Your face,
so that by helping them and thus You, we
can get, and be a giver of, Your grace.
You make some white, some black, some red, and brown,
so that beneath the color of our skin,
we see You, raise You up, not put You down,
and love the one united world we're in.
You make the sick, the lonely old, the young,
the dying ones, the crippled, and the crazed,
so that we dry their tears, and by their tongue,
the God of everyone can then be praised.
O Christ, that You abide in each is true,
so in each I may love and worship You.
