Love's Duty

The powers of love are not just for our pleasure,
love’s powers impose responsibility,
love’s not just free, it also is a treasure,
love’s guarded by accountability.

Love frees us by releasing us from prison,
the prison of unlove that haunts us all,
love lights our life like colors from a prism,
the light that lets us answer to love’s call.

Love gives us worth, we’re valued by the lover,
a worth that can be measured by the cost,
love’s duties done is how the cost we cover,
how we ensure love’s joys will not be lost.

Lord, let me please achieve love’s self-control,
for greater love, the saving of my soul.
