You Didn't Have To

You didn’t have to make the universe,
the galaxies, the stars, the moon and sun,
instead of good, You could have made it worse,
and never called it good when You were done.

You could have made a world that left out me,
or made it so that everyone was blind,
think of the flowers then we’d never see,
and all the rest that shows us You’re so kind.

When You made us, You knew we’d sometimes fail,
success is that most evil we contest,
You love our struggle for the Holy Grail,
desiring You, You see us at our best.

To show how much us, Lord of love, You did love,
You always knew You’d never us be rid of.
