Loyal Love

O God, my love is told by loyalty,
I search for truth,* and You have proven true;
as You have shown Your loyalty to me,
I’m forced to find my faithfulness in You.

How clear You prove Your loyalty with love,
for making me, I’m filled with gratitude,
You shower me with blessings from above,
You give me Your own body for my food.

How, Lord, shall I be loyal in return?
I’ll see our ways are never far apart,
Your words and works in Scripture I will learn,
my works will show the true love in my heart.

I leap to Your defense when You’re attacked,
my loyalty’s not, Lord, just in the abstract.

* Socrates said our purpose in life is to search for truth.
