Soul Sonnet

O soul, why are you so, so far from me?
Why do I keep you, soul, far from my self?
We two are joined for all eternity,
why do I oft just leave you on the shelf?
O soul, I know you are my spiritual side,
why don't I put more value on your part?
I use you, where my mind and will reside,
why don't I let you rule more of my heart?
O conscience, you're the center of my soul,
but I am quite, it's true, afraid of you,
for there, alone with God, who's in control?
To share my freedom there, what would I do?
Be not afraid, O soul of infinite worth,
let me now nourish you while still on earth.
