The universe sweeps at the speed of light
into dark space, no bigger than a flea,
its fourteen-billion light years width and height
a speck in God's own vast infinity.
God's love my way speeds faster than the light,
more rollicking, more desperate than the sea,
while I, so often lost in my own night,
refuse to feel His love's infinity.
I do not see how tender is the light,
that shines forgiveness, all His care to me,
nor do I take the time to keep in sight
His gentle mercy's vast infinity.
O God, why am I tepid to Your care,
when infinitely You light me for a prayer?
