Great literature puts stories in my head;
what matters if I die with one more story?
What matters more what’s in my heart instead,
have I had love enough to win my glory?
Great athletes are the heroes of my son,
who wins the game, who’s best of this year’s season;
what matters will the game of life be won,
not love of sport, but love of God’s the reason.
Great comedy and wit appeal to all,
we’re popular if we create the laughter,
but midst the noise, do I perceive the call?
The laughs will fade, what matters most is after.
Lord, books and play and wit are not the worst,
so long what matters most I tend to first.
