My regular prayer I pray irregularly,
there’s always something getting in my way,
while my soul prays, “Nearer my God to Thee,”
my prayer life tends to drift from day to day.
I take each prayer and try to nail it down,
attach it to a regular thing I do,
if I just let them loose, I almost drown,
but one Hail Mary goes on with my shoe.
I grab a Morning Offering for my sox,
an Our Father with a shirt to wear,
each floating prayer ends in a little box,
my wardrobe--on and off--becomes a prayer.
If this, Lord, helps make it more regular,
my prayer life is more likely to endure.
