I give a quantity of time to prayer,
I wish I had more quality to show;
the time does tell that I believe You're there,
I hope my faith brings love enough in tow.
What do I merit, Lord, because I pray?
No one earns heaven, too good for us to see,
but since I give a piece of me each day,
can't I expect a piece of You for me?
My prayer disposes me to love You more,
to see You in the people that I meet,
by word and deed I better treat the poor,
and those are helped for whom my prayers entreat.
O God, I see the arc my prayers can trace
to all of those that they embrace with grace.
